Friends, I have 4 words for you. Go To Watts 1903. I always get excited when I hear about a new restaurant opening in Spokane, or as I like to call them a new kid on the block. I first became aware of Watts 1903 one day when my husband and I were walking by their space prior to them being open. They were still in the final stages of construction but as we walked by the building we were of course intrigued so we peeked in the windows and I knew that I wanted to visit right away when they were open. So I kept a pulse on when that would be and visited them the week of their soft opening. I took my most trusty little sidekick, our almost 5 year old and I invited my dear friend Jen to join us as well. We all know that food enjoyed with great company makes it even more delicious. Watts offers a nice variety of starters, soups, salads and handhelds. They also have some entrees available like short ribs, schnitzel, halibut and NY strip. During our visit, when it came time to order, we took our time and studied the menu in a way that was comparable to studying for a final exam in school. We finally decided on their spicy crispy chicken sandwich and it was fantastic. Gosh, I want to eat it again right now. The chicken had a perfect crispiness on the outside and was juicy and tender on the inside. The flavors of the aioli, brioche bun and apple slaw worked perfectly together. We also enjoyed their beer cheese soup (always order that!) and the mac and cheese. Their menu item that we didn't order during our visit that has me intrigued now and I need to get back in soon to try is their Bulgogi fries which are crispy shoestring fries that have Korean marinated sirloin steak, kimchi and spicy aioli over top them. Doesn’t that sound so good?!
In additional to wine and beer they also offer some cocktails that sound fun and delicious. Here are a few of the choices you have when visiting Watts:
Pink peppercorn Paloma - tequila, pink peppercorn syrup, lime juice, grapefruit, Pellegrino
Ginger belle - bourbon, mandarin juice, ginger beer
Sweet jams - gin, tarragon, plum jam, lemon, tonic
For all of my fellow fans of happy hour, Watts has happy hour from 4-6pm Monday - Friday and ALL Day Sunday. Some of the items on their happy hour menu include: jerk chicken tacos, chips and salsa, bacon and potato soup, Bulgogi fries, cheeseburger and fries and soft pretzel. During happy hour house wine is $5 a glass and it's $1 off draft beer and glasses of wine. The space at Watts is open and airy and full of natural light. The day that we visited the sun was shining and pouring in the big windows which felt marvelous as it was early February. Great for visiting with a group of friends or date night. This new local spot is addition to downtown Spokane. I’m excited to return and take my whole family with me.
